There was a time, long before Chris Evans existed in my mind, that I was in love with a boy named Joey Jerimiah, a handsome young man who was Canada’s first famous bad boy.
I got to meet him this weekend, his name is Pat Mastroianni, – and not only did I get to meet him, I got to meet four of the original cast of Degrassi. I got to say thank you for the inspiration they gave to the world. You may not know this, but without Degrassi there would not have been sex and the city or even 90210, or a dozen other shows I could name, all inspired by the existence of this show. I cannot you guys, even begin to tell you how it feels to meet your very first celebrity crush, to hug him and feel exactly as you thought you’d feel. Like a twelve-year-old girl falling in love with her very first crush all over again. Chris Evans has most definitely been replaced by the Original.
Almost as soon as I walked through the door, I also met Nancy Grummett, who is one of the kindest, most wise most amazing women I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with. She gave me a lot of advice about being a woman and refusing to let any man tear me down.
I also met her husband, those of you who are comic geeks may remember Tom Grummett from comics such as The New Titans, The Adventures of Superman, Superboy, Power Company, Robin, New Thunderbolts and Heroes.
Tom Grummett is the coolest man I have ever met in my life, not only is he ridiculously kind, but he’s incredibly inspiring. Pat Broderick is one of the most respectful men I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.
Tom told me that if you want to be an artist, you should learn to tell stories by reading comic books because they give you the opportunity to learn how to pace a story, but if you want to be an artist, you have to study everything you can get your hands on.
It was a phenomenal weekend for me, and not only did I have the absolute best time in this world that I’ve never experienced before but it cemented my love of writing, of creating stories and I realized more than anything this weekend that the only thing I want to do with my life is writing.
Both Pat and Tom talked a lot about being Comic nerds, about how much comics have inspired them, and I honestly feel proud that I was one of the few people who interviewed these amazing men. I also got to meet Superman himself, Brandon Routh, who is beautiful, kind and oh my goodness, so tall!
So to that end, it is time to get my shit together. About six months ago I started a Patreon Account because I figured that at some point I would need it, I realize now that if this – if writing is something I want to do, I need to be able to prove I can make an income at it.
I want more than anything to be a writer, but I more than that, want to be a creator. I want my legacy to be something that lasts forever, something that inspires and educates and challenges the way that people think about the world. I want to be the best version of myself.
On Patreon you guys will have access to my exclusive Podcast “Ascension” separate and above my work, from CJSF this podcast will be inspiring, educative, and informative. I will be interviewing people you’ve never heard of, and hopefully some you have heard of and I am super excited.
I hope that you guys will join me. Starting in January, Ascension will bring you all of the people who inspire me, teach me and push me to be the very best version of myself and I AM REALLY FREAKING EXCITED.
I learned a lot this weekend, but the thing that I learned most, more than anything else in the world, is that I can be whoever I want to be, and no one can stop me. I found my place in the world this weekend in ways I never expected and at long last, I finally found a direction and I am ready to go.
I hope you all have a wonderful amazing week
Sending all my love,
